Terms of service
The short version: Hop is a reference, so always confirm before you travel.

1. Hop is a personal travel reference tool, currently free, provided as is and as available. It is published by Jason Hounsfield through his Apple and Google developer accounts, which are being moved to his company, Hop Group Pty Ltd (trading as Hop Travel); “we” and “us” mean him until then. Contact: support@hoptravelapp.com.
2. Visa, entry, advisory and currency information may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. You are responsible for confirming all requirements with official government sources, and with your airline, before booking or travelling.
3. Hop is not migration, legal or financial advice, and no agency or advisory relationship is created by using it. Hop is independent and not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any government — see the Disclaimer.
4. Your consumer rights. The Australian Consumer Law and the consumer laws of other countries give you rights that no agreement can take away, including guarantees that our services will be supplied with due care and skill. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes those rights. If we don’t meet a guarantee, you are entitled to the remedies the law provides.
5. Responsibility for loss. This clause applies only as far as the law allows and never limits your rights under clause 4.
(a) You are responsible for confirming requirements with official sources before you book or travel (clause 2). We are not responsible for loss or costs that happen because you relied on Hop instead of doing that, such as being refused boarding, entry or a visa, or missing travel, unless the loss was caused by our failure to take reasonable care or to meet a consumer guarantee.
(b) We are not responsible for loss caused solely by events outside our reasonable control, such as a government changing its rules or advice without notice, an official website being wrong or unavailable, or a failure of Apple’s, Google’s or a data provider’s systems.
6. Premium in this build is a free demonstration: the unlock is local to your device and no payment is taken. If paid subscriptions launch, these terms will be updated first.
7. Content and licences. Hop’s own text and design are for your personal, non-commercial use. Photos and government material shown in Hop belong to their owners and are used under their own licences, credited in Settings under Photo credits and Data sources & attribution; those licences, not these terms, govern your use of them. Showing a government’s information does not mean that government endorses Hop.
8. Changes. We may update these terms, the Disclaimer and the Privacy Policy. Hop downloads the current versions when you’re online, so they can change without an app update; each shows the date it applies from, and Hop keeps the last version it downloaded for when you’re offline. A change never applies to anything that happened before its date. If we make an important (“material”) change to these terms or the Disclaimer, Hop shows it to you in the app and asks you to agree before you keep using Hop; if you don’t agree, you can stop using Hop at any time, and you can still open and save your documents. We keep every earlier version, dated, and will send you a copy if you ask.
9. These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia, Australia.
10. Shared links. If you share a trip or your travel map as a link, you choose what it includes, and anyone with the link can see it. A link can’t be cancelled once sent.
Disclaimer
Hop is a travel reference, not advice. It shows general published information about visas, entry rules, travel advisories and currency, plus travel guides, to help you plan. It is not legal, immigration, financial or travel advice, and using Hop creates no advisory relationship.
Always check before you travel. Rules change, sometimes without notice, and despite careful checking any entry in Hop can be incomplete or out of date. Before you book, and again before you travel, confirm the current requirements with the destination’s embassy, consulate or official immigration website, and with your airline or other carrier, who check travel documents before you board. Every destination card links your own government’s travel advice, and Premium adds a direct link to the destination’s official visa or e-visa portal. “Last date checked” is the last day Hop checked that entry against an official source and found nothing that changes it. It isn’t a promise that the rule hasn’t changed since.
Travel advisories. Advisory levels belong to the governments that publish them: Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. Hop shows each government’s advice on a simple four-step scale. Governments describe their advice in different ways: some use four levels or colours, others use warnings for all or part of a country. Where a government’s own system doesn’t match the scale step for step, the step Hop shows is Hop’s reading of that advice, not the government’s own rating, and the card says so. Always tap through and read the government’s advice itself, including any warnings for parts of a country. For Irish and South Korean passports, Hop links to the government’s travel advice instead of showing a level. India’s government publishes no comparable advisory rating, so Indian passport cards show “No advisory rating”; India’s Ministry of External Affairs may still issue advisories, so check its website too.
Exchange rates. Rates are indicative mid-market reference rates. When you’re online, Hop fetches them from ExchangeRate-API about once a day. If that isn’t available, Hop uses the European Central Bank’s reference rates for the currencies they cover and its built-in table for the rest. Offline, Hop uses the last rates it saved or its built-in table, and shows the date of the rates. They are not what a bank, card or money changer will charge you.
Your own records. Auto-fill reads your tickets and confirmations on your phone and can misread them, and lists you copy from Hop, such as the countries for a visa form, contain only what you’ve recorded. Check them against the originals before you rely on them or put them on a form.
Hop is independent. Hop is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by any government or government agency.
Your rights. Hop is provided as it is, but nothing in this disclaimer limits the guarantees and rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other consumer laws. The Terms of Service set out who is responsible for what.
